Bronwyn Gay is a story teller, science interpreter, graphic designer, copywriter and general marketing exponent. She spent her early career using her visual communication skills to sell ideas, products and services to a wide range of target audiences (whether they wanted to buy them or not). Working at every level within local and international design and advertising agencies, Bronwyn has been involved in all aspects of communications work throughout her 20+ year career – from concepting to development and production. These projects have varied in size from the small and perfectly formed with next-to-no-budget, to large multi-national campaigns with the weight of big dollars behind them. It’s this broad range of experience that provides her the ability to know what is going to effectively connect with different audiences.
After an existential crisis with her contribution to advertising, she decided to use her powers for good. Her love of writing, designing and producing work that has the ability to make a real difference in peoples lives led her into the science communication, education and event/engagement field. For more than ten years she’s relished the challenge of communicating important scientific technical content – making a project more meaningful. The ability to understand the communication requirements of research outputs or environmental issues, and interpret complex data into digestible information is at the heart of good visual communication for science – and this is where Bronwyn adds real value. Her experience working with multi-layered information, developing hierarchies and information architecture helps audiences navigate to the answers they need, and ensures high audience engagement. The skills employed on these projects include understanding a target audiences’ frame of reference, so communications are focused, relevant, easy to read and engaging to look at. She’s an effective writer with years of experience crafting copy so it’s appropriate to specific age groups and knowledge levels. Bronwyn has content development and management experience across all media, and most online CMS/social interfaces for modern communications as needed in a modern business environment. She can bring warmth and humour to the driest of content deserts when appropriate.
Bronwyn has been integral to the content development, design and implementation of a broad range of community-based events and engagement programmes – including the development of branding, methodology explanations, map/infographic generation, event management/production, digital and online interface design and reporting.
